হঠাৎ এএফসি কাপ থেকে ‘বাদ’ আবাহনী!

 

প্লে-অফ ম্যাচ নিয়ে কিছু দিন ধরে এএফসির সঙ্গে চিঠি চালাচালি চলছিল আবাহনী লিমিটেডের। সবশেষ শোনা গিয়েছিল, এএফসি কাপের গ্রুপ পর্বে ওঠার প্লে-অফের প্রথম লেগের ম্যাচ তারা আয়োজন করতে চায় ৫ থেকে ৭ মে’র মধ্যে; ঢাকাতেই। কিন্তু হঠাৎ করেই এশিয়ান ফুটবল কনফেডারেশন বিবৃতি দিয়ে জানিয়েছে, আবাহনীর প্লে-অফ ম্যাচে খেলা হচ্ছে না। 

বঙ্গবন্ধু জাতীয় স্টেডিয়ামে গত ১৪ এপ্রিল মালদ্বীপের দল ইগলসের বিপক্ষে খেলার কথা ছিল আবাহনীর। কিন্তু করোনাভাইরাসের সংক্রমণ নতুন করে বেড়ে যাওয়ায় নির্ধারিত সময়ে ম্যাচটি আয়োজন করা সম্ভব হয়নি।

পরে ম্যাচটি নেপালে আয়োজনের চিন্তা করেছিল আবাহনী। কিন্তু করোনাভাইরাস পরিস্থিতির কারণে ভ্রমণ নিষেধাজ্ঞা থাকায় সেটাও সম্ভব হয়নি। সবশেষে ভারত ও মালদ্বীপে চেষ্টা চলে। কিন্তু এ মুহূর্তে ভারতের করোনাভাইরাস পরিস্থিতি খুবই খারাপ। মালদ্বীপও আগ্রহী নয় ম্যাচটি আয়োজনে। এর প্রেক্ষিতে আগামী মে মাসের প্রথম সপ্তাহে ম্যাচটি ঢাকায় আয়োজনের প্রস্তাব এএফসিকে দিয়েছিল আবাহনী।

শুক্রবার এএফসি তাদের ওয়েবসাইটে বিবৃতি দিয়ে জানায়, বাংলাদেশের চলমান করোনাভাইরাস পরিস্থিতি এবং ভ্রমণ নিষেধাজ্ঞার বিষয়গুলো সতর্কতার সঙ্গে বিবেচনায় নিয়ে সাব-কমিটি সিদ্ধান্ত দিয়েছে, এএফসি কাপ-২০২১ থেকে আবাহনী সরে দাঁড়িয়েছে বলে বিবেচিত হবে। পরিস্থিতির কারণে বাধ্য হয়ে এমন সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়েছে।

বিবৃতিতে আরও জানানো হয়েছে, মালদ্বীপের দল ইগসলকে প্রথম লেগের ম্যাচে বিজয়ী বিবেচনা করা হবে। প্লে-অফের দ্বিতীয় ধাপের ম্যাচে আগামী ১১ মে বেঙ্গালোর এফসির মুখোমুখি হবে তারা। এর চার দিন পর মালদ্বীপে শুরু হবে প্রতিযোগিতাটির মূল পর্ব; সেখানে সরাসরি খেলছে বাংলাদেশের দল বসুন্ধরা কিংস।

Abahani Limited has been in correspondence with the AFC for some time regarding the play-off match. Last heard, they want to host the first leg of the AFC Cup group stage play-offs between May 5 and 6; In Dhaka. But suddenly the Asian Football Confederation said in a statement that Abahani is not playing in the play-off match.

Abahani was scheduled to play against Maldives Eagles on April 14 at Bangabandhu National Stadium. But due to the resurgence of coronavirus infection, the match could not be held on time.

Later, Abahani thought of hosting the match in Nepal. But even that was not possible due to the travel ban due to the coronavirus situation. Finally, attempts were made in India and Maldives. But at the moment the coronavirus situation in India is very bad. Maldives is also not interested in hosting the match. In view of this, Abahani proposed to AFC to hold the match in Dhaka in the first week of May.

The AFC said in a statement on its website on Friday that the sub-committee had carefully considered the ongoing coronavirus situation in Bangladesh and the travel ban, adding that Abahani would be considered to have withdrawn from the AFC Cup-2021. The decision has been taken due to the situation.

The statement added that Maldives' team Igsal will be considered the winner of the first leg match. They will face FC FC in the second round of the play-offs on May 11. The main event of the competition will start in Maldives four days later; Bangladesh team Bashundhara Kings is playing directly there.
